What's New in the Cairo International Film Festival

The Cairo International Film Festival is launching the first edition of the Cairo Film Connection in partnership with Misr International Films (Youssef Chahine) and the Egyptian Film Center. The Cairo Film Connection is the latest coproduction platform aiming at maximizing networking to induce coproductions for films originating from the arab world. The first year, 10 projects will be selected by a team of experts Directors and producers will be invited to the Cairo Film Connection to pitch their

projects over a period of 3 days to key industry professionals whether international or from the region. Good communication through brochures and a website as well as individualized meetings scheduled in advance should maximize exposure of the projects and optimize all the participants experience. Guests will be carefully

selected to cover all stages of development of film production, funding, distribution, marketing, broadcasting, sales, festivals. In addition to the exposure offered to film-makers during the Cairo Film Connection, the Egyptian Ministry of Culture is offering a special award amounting to $10,000.

* "مترونوم"، إخراج إسلام عزازي

كيف تؤدي المنافسة، والجاذبية، وافتقاد الثقة إلى فرض شروطها على أبسط جوانب الحياة اليومية بينهما.
إنتاج: شركة ويكا للإنتاج والتوزيع.


* "ولدي الأسترالي"، إخراج أسعد فولاكدار

والد لبناني تقليدي يجد أن عليه إعادة النظر في القيم التي يضعها على ثقافته وعائلته بعد أن يُفاجئ بوفاة ابنه المتمرد غير المتوقعة.
إنتاج: شركة فتح الله للأفلام.


* "رحلة"، إخراج ميار الرومي

بعد خمسين عامًا على فيلم "السفر في إيطاليا" لروبرتو روسيليني، يتتبع المخرج ميار الرومي رحلة فتاة وفتى متحابين من سوريا إلى طهران. ومثل فيلم روسيليني، يأخذنا هذا الفيلم في رحلة داخل مشاهد جميلة ومشاعر مختلطة.

* "صحرا"، إخراج أحمد رشوان

في واحة سيوة، على مسافة تبعد حوالي 800 كيلومترًا من القاهرة، تلعب الطبيعة القاسية دورًا مهمًا في تشكيل شخصيات الفيلم. يلتقي في هذا المكان ثلاث شخصيات من خلفيات ثقافية واجتماعية مختلفة. يتناول الفيلم تفاعلاتهم مع المكان، وبين بعضهم البعض.
إنتاج: شركة دريم برودكشن.


* "مغازلة ليلى"، إخراج أسعد قلادة

كوميديا رومانسية حول رجل أمريكي يسافر إلى مصر ويكتشف الحب.
إنتاج: شركة "ديزرت دور".


* "المندوب"، إخراج علاء عزام

فارس، مندوب مبيعات متجول. يضيق من عمله المرهق في القاهرة المزدحمة الصاخبة. يلتقي بزينب ويقع في حبها، لكنهما لا يتمكنان من الالتقاء والبقاء معًا بسبب الضغوط المجتمعية والمالية.
إنتاج: شركة "ريال إيمدج".


* "حتى الصباح"، إخراج هشام بزري

يُسجل الفيلم مسار شخصيات عديدة خلال يوم عادي في بيروت. يعاني موريس، وهو لبناني مسيحي، مع زوجته الأمريكية هيلين في هذا اليوم الذي يصادف ذكرى وفاة ابنهما. وفي الوقت نفسه، يحاول يوسف، وهو مسلم ساخط يعمل مصورًا صحفيًّا، أن يشق حياته مع خطيبته ملك. تتحرك الشخصيات لتمارس أعمالها وحياتها عبر طرقات وأزقة بيروت التي يتعذر طمسها. وفي نهاية القصة، يدرك الزوجان أن تجاوز البؤس يتطلب ولادة جديدة.

* "لما بنتولد"، إخراج تامر عزت

ثلاثة شخصيات مصرية شابة تقترب من سن الخامسة والعشرين. يجاهدون جميعًا من أجل تحقيق أحلامهم في الحب، والشهرة، والاستقرار المالي.

* "التشريفة"، إخراج وائل عمر

الفيلم عبارة عن رحلة في القاهرة، حيث تلتقي خمس قصص في إزدحام مروري خانق. ونظرًا لأن القصة تُروى من خلال عدسة خمس شخصيات تجاهد من أجل الوصول إلى المكان الذي تقصده، وتدرك في النهاية أن أقدارنا في القاهرة مرتبطة معًا.
إنتاج: شركة ميدل وست للإنتاج السينمائي.


* "ميدان المساحة"، إخراج أيتن أمين

كوميديا إنسانية تدور حول رجل يبلغ من العمر 62 عامًا ويواجه الموت نتيجة لإصابته بمرض عضال. تقتحم بعض الشخصيات من ماضيه (زوجته السابقة، شقيقته الكبرى، ...) حياته المنعزلة، وتقوده تدريجيًّا إلى تغيير نظرته للحياة.
إنتاج: شركة كولاج للإنتاج السينمائي.

* "آخر أيام المدينة"، إخراج تامر السعيد

مخرج يبلغ سن الرشد في مدينة أخذت في الانهيار.

* "متران من هذا التراب"، إخراج أحمد النتشة

في إحدى الأمسيات الصيفية برام الله، يتجمع عدد من الناس في مسرح مكشوف للإعداد لحفل موسيقي سوف يُذاع تلفزيونيًّا.

How competition, attraction and lack of confidence can condition day-to-day exchanges between people even in the most simple things.


* "My Australian Son "directed by Assad Fouladkar

A traditional Lebanese patriarch must rethink the values he places on his culture and family after the rebellious son he disowned is unexpectedly killed.


* "Rehleh"directed by Meyar El Roumy

56 years after « Viaggio in Italia » by Roberto Rossellini, director Meyar Al Roumi follows two young lovers on a trip from Syria to Teheran. Much like Rossellini's film, we're invited on a journey into beautiful scenery and mixed feelings.


* "Sahara"directed by Ahmed Rashwan

About 800 km away from Cairo, in the oasis of Siwa, harsh nature plays a significant role in the formation of the characters of our film. In this place, three characters from different cultural and social backgrounds meet. The film looks at the interaction they will have with the place and each other.


* "Seducing Leila"directed by Assaad Kelada

A fish-out-of-water romantic comedy about an American man who goes to Egypt and discovers love.


* "The Sales Agent"directed by Alaa Azzam

Fares, a travelling sales agent is overworked and exhausted by his work and the hustle and bustle of Cairo. Fares meets Zeinab and falls in love with her but they cannot be together due to societal and financial pressures.


* "Until Morning"directed by Hisham Bizri

The story chronicles the passage of several characters through Beirut during an ordinary day. Maurice, a Christian, and his New Yorker wife Helen, struggle with the memory of their son's killing. Meanwhile, Yusuf, a disaffected Muslim writer, tries to make a good life for himself and his finance, Malak. The characters go about their business, crossing paths with a gallery of indelible Beirutis. By the end of the story, the couple has come to realize that transcending misery requires re-birth.


* "When We Are Born"directed by Tamer Ezzat

Three young Egyptians are all approaching 25, they struggle to fulfil their dreams in love, fame and financial instability.


* "When Traffic Stops"directed by Wael Omar and Rasha El Gammal

A homage to Cairo that takes us on a ride, when five stories collide in a traffic gridlock. Told through the lenses of 5 characters in a struggle to reach there destination, only to realize that -in Cairo- our fate is all tied together.


* "69 Messaha"directed by Ayten Amin

A human comedy about a 62-year old man facing death from a terminal illness. Characters from his past (ex-wife, older sister .... ) invade his carefully constructed solitude which leads to gradual changes in his view on life.
